Vineyards and winterbournes of Alresford | 3.5 miles (Walking Weekend)

On this gentle stroll we'll be visiting the Pinglestone vineyard, where Vranken-Pommery became the first Champagne House to plant vines in England. Vines are planted overlooking the beautiful South Downs National Park, and the confluence of the River Itchen and the chalk streams of the Arle in Alresford.

We will meet at the Arlebury Park Recreation Centre, then walk through the playing fields down to reach the banks of the River Arle.

We will then proceed west along the river, passing the Eel House (managed by the Town Trust), then continue along the Ox Drove towards Abbotstone.

Our walk then heads east for a short stretch on the road, before we head south across the vineyards of Vranken Pommery - a French champagne manufacturer based in Reims. From here there are delightful views of the town and the adjoining sports fields.

We will be met at the vineyard by a member of the Pommery team ,who will give us a brief overview of the vineyard activities - "From Vine to Glass".

We then return back to the town centre and car park via the Fulling Mill.  There are no stiles and just a couple of gentle inclines.

Stagecoach's No.64 bus provides half-hourly service between Winchester Broadway and Alresford.
