Morning Half-Marathon: A Chilcomb & Cheesefoot Head circuit | 13+ miles (Walking Weekend)
Challenge your limits on a 13-mile loop to Cheesefoot Head for epic, breathtaking 360-degree views over the South Downs.
Starting from the East Winchester Park & Ride (St Catherine’s), we quickly leave the city behind for the countryside.
Our journey follows the South Downs Way to the picturesque hamlet of Chilcomb before taking on a climb toward Cheesefoot Head. While the ascent requires a bit of effort, you will be well rewarded at the summit with great views across the rolling South Downs landscape. From there, the route follows the Allan King Way, maintaining an undulating pace that keeps the scenery varied and engaging.
We'll return via the villages of Baybridge and Owslebury, before joining the Pilgrims’ Way, following in the footsteps of ancient travellers to return to our starting point.
If you're still feeling energetic, you can join the afternoon Half-Marathon to complete a full Marathon hike in one day.
We will have two short refreshment stops, of about 10 mins. Please bring plenty of water and easy to eat snack foods. It's important to wear adequate hiking boots.
For those who plan to walk the Afternoon Half Marathon, we will have a 20 to 30 minute break at about 1.00pm, when those who want to, can also change their socks and/or walking shoes.
