8.5 miles FO8 Minley Crown and Cushion (a dry underfoot walk)
An advantage of this walk is that the whole area is on the Bagshot Sands and mud is always in short supply. So we can walk on gravel tracks through mixed heathland and wooded countryside with no real roads and no traffic. Also nice views if it isn't raining. The only disadvantage is that it's 31 miles to the start point at the pub from Winchester. That said, drive time is only 35 minutes. It's also very simple as the pub is 3 minutes from junction 4a on the M3.
Distance is 4.5 miles in the morning in Minley Woods with a lot of open areas. and 4 in the afternoon on Hawley Common. No stiles. Minor gentle hills. Army land. Some tasteful war games areas, Unfortunately usually night action so most unlikely to see anything exciting. No live ammunition.
The pub does not want pre-orders but I need to give them numbers by Wednesday 6pm.
Starting location: Crown and Cushion pub, which is on Minley Road, just 400m north of junction 4a of the M3. Second exit towards Yateley at the roundabout at the end of the slip road. OS grid ref: SU834571. Close-by postcode GU17 9UA.
Pub menu includes soup of the day and jacket potatoes, but only one sandwich...
The pub is advertising a 33% reduction on all food (but not drinks). You would need to have this on your phone or print it off. Show it before asking for the bill. If it doesn't work I'm not taking any responsibility!!!!
