7-10 miles Abbotstone Down

The walk sets off from Abbotstone Down car park , close to Abbotstone Wood. The 32.2 acres is owned by Hampshire County Council . We follow the Wayfarers Walk,  a long distance path which takes in three ancient routes , South Hants Ridgeway, the Harrow Way and North Hants  Ridgeway. These are chalk downlands  with beech hangers, rolling landscape and chalk stream rivers . The villages and hamlets have flint buildings and this is seen in churches , walls and homes.

The tracks we follow were used by farmers to drive their sheep to the local sheep fairs in Farnham and Old Alresford. We head North past Olivers Battery an ancient hill fort and then turn to pick up the Three Castles path, which takes all the way to Upper Wield,  marking the half way point and lunch stop.

The afternoon walk uses the St James Way and Oxdrove Way to Nettlebed Farm , Finchley Wood before arriving back at Abbotstone Down.
