5 miles at Old Basing

A new walk to this group.

The walk takes us immediately over a pedestrian bridge crossing the M3 and is very largely through fields and woods, with many good views. There is only a short distance on quiet lanes, with one or two gradual inclines, but nothing of concern. There is one stile quite soon after we start.  On the cultural side we do pass by the Ancient Village Church of St Mary’s Maple Durwell which is worth a look, as some parts of the chancel date from the 12th century.

The final 400yds or so run close to the M3 before crossing back over the pedestrian bridge, and it must be said that the roar of traffic does rather stifle the birdsong. However at that point all minds are firmly fixed on lunch and we shall persevere.
