11.2 miles - Overton and Jane Austen country

From Overton we head east, passing close to the source of the River Test, then entering Jane Austen country, passing Ashe House, the home of Austen's aunt. We then pass through the hamlet of Deane where Austen's older brother was rector of the church.

We then take up the Wayfarer's Way as far as the railway and head to Steventon where Jane grew up, before reaching North Waltham for a picnic lunch.

We head back via quiet roads and fields to Overton.

There are a few stiles, but mainly kissing gates.
